Boeing has made it official—its Boeing property sale efforts now include the Longacres campus in Renton, marking a significant shift in the company’s Washington state footprint. This follows an announcement made six months ago indicating the aerospace giant was considering selling its commercial airplane headquarters building.

On Tuesday, Boeing confirmed the Longacres property has been listed for sale. The move reflects the company’s broader strategy to reduce operating costs amid ongoing financial strain caused by the pandemic. The 215-acre Longacres Campus now joins a growing list of Boeing properties in the Puget Sound region up for sale, including sites in Everett, Frederickson, Bellevue, and Renton.

As part of this initiative, Boeing plans to eliminate around 2.5 million square feet of office space. The company is also targeting a 7% reduction of its total regional office footprint. In addition, over 300 acres of Boeing-owned but unused land will be sold as part of the larger restructuring process.

Conrad Chun, Vice President of Commercial Airplanes, addressed public speculation, denying that the sale signals a long-term retreat from the Puget Sound area. He emphasized that Boeing’s Commercial Airplanes headquarters will remain within the region, albeit no longer housed in the Longacres facility.

The downsizing and sale of Longacres will result in several internal adjustments. One major change includes relocating the office of Commercial Airplanes CEO Stan Deal to a space overlooking the 737 delivery center at Boeing Field in Seattle. His new office will be just one-quarter the size of his previous space at Longacres.

In line with the company’s emphasis on efficiency and reduced overhead, other senior leadership positions are also being reshuffled. Executives such as Chief Financial Officer Stephanie Pope, Vice President of Human Resources Joelle Denney, and Conrad Chun himself will share an office adjacent to Deal’s new location.

Depending on role and responsibility, many Commercial Airplanes leaders may shift to remote or hybrid work arrangements. The flexibility is intended to align with evolving workplace norms and support Boeing’s broader plan to operate more leanly in the future.

The Boeing property sale initiative is part of a wider real estate strategy aimed at adapting to post-pandemic operations. As remote work becomes more commonplace and aircraft demand stabilizes, Boeing is looking to consolidate its facilities while maintaining its key operations in core locations.

While the Longacres sale represents a major change, Boeing remains committed to its commercial airplane business and to maintaining a strong presence in the Pacific Northwest. The company’s continued restructuring efforts are expected to unfold gradually as it balances tradition with modernization.
